Sayyiduna Suhail reported on the authority of Abu Huraira that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said on the Day of Khaibar: I shall certainly give this standard in the hand of one who loves Allah and his Messenger and Allah will grant victory at his hand. Umar b. Khattab said: Never did I cherish for leadership but on that day. I came before him with the hope that I may be called for this, but Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) called ‘Ali b. Abu Talib and he conferred (this honour) upon him and said: Proceed on and do not look about until Allah grants you victory. This Hadith represents a firm proof for the great companion, Sayyiduna Ali Ibn Abi Talib that he loved Allah and His prophet (ﷺ). His full name is Ali Ibn Abu Talib Bin Abdul-Muttalib Bin Hashim. He came from family of Quraish tribe, the family of Banu Hashim, and he was the cousin of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). He is one of the 10 companions who were promised Jannah. He was the fourth Rashidun caliph who ruled the Islamic nation after the death of the prophet Muhammad. He was born before the mission of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) by 10 years and before the Immigration by 23 years. His father is Abu Talib, an honor man came from the tribe of Qurish, one of the most respectable tribes at that time that was honored by serving the visitors of the House of Allah.  At the age of five, Quraish was struck with a drought that affected Abu Talib state, thus the Prophet (S.A.W.) appealed to his uncle Al-Abbas to help Abu Talib during the crisis, and asked to take care of Sayyduna Ali. He was raised by the prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and his wife Lady Khadijah.

When the prophet Muhammad received the revelation from Allah, Sayyiduna Ali did not hesitate to accept Islam. He stayed in the company of the prophet Muhammad since he was 5 years old, and he was confident of the prophet Muhammad ethics and his great characteristics. Ibn Ishaaq said, ”Once Ali ibn Abu Talib (R.A.) came back home while the Prophet (ﷺ) and his noble wife Khadijah (R.A.) were praying. Ali (R.A.) asked about the prayer, then the Prophet (ﷺ) told him that it is the right religion from Allah, that demands worshiping no god but Allah. Ali (R.A.) said that he has never heard about this before, and has to tell his father Abu Talib about it, but the Prophet (ﷺ) asked him to keep the matter in secret. The next morning Ali (R.A.) came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and declared his Islam. At the beginning, he kept his Islam a secret, fearing from his father, but when Abu Talib recognized him, he approved his and asked him to sustain to it while Abu Talib refused to depart the religion of his late fathers till he passed away. Sayyiduna Ali was known for his bravery and courage. When Allah ordered the prophet Muhammad to immigrate from Makkha to Madinah, and he knew that the people of Qurish agreed to assassinate him, the prophet Muhammad asked him to stay in his bed, when he was 20 years old. As people will not dare to kill Ali Ibn Abi Talib. The prophet Muhammad asked him to stay in Makkah, the people of Makkah continued to keep their trusts of cash and gold in the prophet Muhammad’s safe-keeping. It was Ali (R.A.) whom the Prophet (S.A.W.) trusted to return the possessions to their owners when he left for Madinah. Afterwards, Sayyiduna Ali left Makkah to Madinah once he finished his task.

His marriage to lady Fatima al-Zahra

Many of the companions proposed to marry the daughter of the prophet Muhammad, Lady Fatima Al-Zahra, but Sayyiduna Muhammad was rejecting as she was still young. When sayyiduna Ali proposed to her, the prophet Muhammad accepted him, and they got married after battle of Badr, he was 25 years old, and Lady Fatima was 15 years old. Sayyiduna Ali never married a second wife during Lady Fatima’s life, though polygamy was common at that time, and this was for the love of the prophet Muhammad. They were given two sons, Hasan and Husayn.

It Narrated Hubshi bin Junadah: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ”Ali is from me and I am from ‘Ali. And none should represent me except myself or ‘Ali.” May Allah be pleased with Abu Turab, Sayyiduna Ali Ibn Abi Talib.
