what is the purpose of the day of judgment?

Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran, Surah Al-Muminune, Ayah 115 ”Then did you think that We created you uselessly and that to Us you would not be returned.” (أَفَحَسِبْتُمْ أَنَّمَا خَلَقْنَاكُمْ عَبَثًا وَأَنَّكُمْ إِلَيْنَا لَا تُرْجَعُونَ), He tells us that this life is not a sort of joke or a game and that no matter how long it lasts, it will come to an end. This end starts from the moment that humans think everything ends, but it actually starts, it begins with death. The traits of human beings in this life are extensions to the next life, the good you do will lead you to Jannah, while evil actions will lead to Hellfire. And this simple rule applies to the tiny actions and to the most horrible ones. We as Muslims believe that we will be accountable for our actions, we believe that everything has an end even the most unbearable sufferings that prevail in this world. The need for justice is pressing and urgent, and Allah commanded us to do good for the sake of the moment of fair retribution. For this reason, Allah made this day and commanded us to believe in the Day of Judgment and its events.

blowing the trumpet (Al-Soor)

The definite time of the Day of Judgment is only in the Hands of Allah, but when the time comes Allah will order the angel Israfil to blow the Horn and this will cause death to all human beings who are still alive after the great epics that happened before the day of judgment. The word “soor” (translated here as a trumpet) means a horn, like a trumpet or a bugle. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Don’t give superiority to any prophet amongst Allah’s Prophets, for when the trumpet is blown, everyone on the earth and in the heavens will become unconscious except those whom Allah will exempt. The trumpet will be blown for the second time and I will be the first to be resurrected to see Moses holding Allah’s Throne. I will not know whether the unconsciousness which Moses received on the Day of Tur has been sufficient for him or whether he got up before me. And I do not say that there is anybody who is better than Yunus bin Matta.” Then Allah will order another blowing of the Trumpet, and on this occasion The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Between the two blowing of the trumpet there will be forty.” The people said, “O Abu Huraira! Forty days?” I refused to reply. They said, “Forty years?” I refused to reply and added: Everything of the human body will decay except the coccyx bone (of the tail) and from that bone Allah will reconstruct the whole body.

resurrection and the long gathering

Allah said in Surah Al-Zummar, Ayah 68 ”And the Horn will be blown, and whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth will fall dead except whom Allah wills. Then it will be blown again, and at once they will be standing, looking on.” After people are resurrected from their graves they will be shocked because of their resurrection that they will say as Allah mentioned ”They will say, “O woe to us! Who has raised us up from our sleeping place?” [The reply will be], “This is what the Most Merciful had promised, and the messengers told the truth”. Only the believer will be aware of the incidents of the day of judgment. It was narrated from ‘Aishah that the Messenger of Allah said: “The people will be raised up on the Day of Resurrection barefoot, naked and uncircumcised.” ‘Aishah said: “What about their ‘Awrahs?” he said: “Every man that day will have enough to make him careless of others”. People will head to the land of gathering, then they will stand in the land of gathering for a long time, during which they will suffer intense hardship and thirst, and experience extreme fear, because they will stand for such a long time and will be certain that they will be brought to account, and they will wonder what Allah, may He be Glorified and Exalted, will requite them with.

The Lake-Fount of the prophet muhammed

The Mercy of Allah is shown to people after they feel thirsty and exhausted because of the long-standing, to the extent that they will ask to haste their judgment, Allah will grant them many wills. The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w)said: “Indeed there is a Hawd for every Prophet, and indeed they compete to see which of them has the most arriving at it. Indeed I hope that mine will be the one with the most arrival.” In another narration, Sayyidna Anas b. Malik reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: My Cistern would be as extensive as the distance between Aila and San’a, of Yemen, and there would be in it jugs like stars in the sky. The prophet Muhammed described it as It is whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. There would spout into it two streamlets having their sources in Paradise. The one is from gold and the other is from silver. The first people to arrive at it are the poor among the Muhajirin with disheveled heads, and dirty clothes, those whom the women of favor would not marry, nor would the doors be open for them. While the people who will be distanced from the Lake-Fount of the prophet Muhmmed will come to him, and he will recognize them, and they will recognize me, but a barrier will be placed between me and them. He will be told that ”You don’t know what they did after you; they had been constantly turning back on their heels (from their religion).”

May Allah be pleased with us, may Allah grant us a good ending, and make us taste the water from the hands of the prophet Muhammed.
